Adult Depression Adult depression is a fact of life. About 18.8 million adults endure a depressive illness (National Institute of Mental Health, NIMH). Depression affects both the young ( See Extension Extra 14062) and old, and both men and women.

Childhood and Adolescent Depression All children and teens experience stress. They have times of sadness or the “blues.” In fact, it is normal for older children and teens to be moody. Sometimes, however, moodiness can be dangerous. You have to know when it’s normal and when it isn’t.
