Workforce Series #1: What are Your Job Skills and Interests? We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. There are activities that we can do better and easier than other people. Everyone has some skills and talents to offer the world.

Workforce Series #2: How to Write Your Resume A resume is an accurate description of who you are in the workforce—where you have worked, what you have done, and when you did it.

Work_1Workforce Series #3: Include Cover Letter With Your Resume When you send your resume to potential employers, always include a cover letter. It is vital in today’s job market. A cover letter is a one page letter that describes your goals, personality, qualifications, and interest in the job you are applying for.

Workforce Series #4: References and Letters of Recommendation When you apply for jobs, you need to prepare a list of three to five references. These are people who will speak and write about your character, skills, and abilities based on their past interactions with you and your work, study, or volunteer experiences.

Workforce Series #5: Filling Out a Job Application When you apply for a job, it is usually not possible to simply walk in and talk to the employer about a job opening or position. Many employers ask people to complete an application form.

Workforce Series #6: The Job Interview Prepare your cover letter and resume carefully and submit both to the prospective employer. Approximately one week later, you should follow up with a phone call.  State that you have sent your resume and explain in one minute or less why you think you are the best candidate for the position. Your one-minute pitch should be a clear, concise summary of yourself. Work_2

Workforce Series #7: The Job Interview Follow-Up Letter After a job interview, you should always send a followup letter to the employer. Job candidates that write follow-up letters enhance themselves—thus bringing them one step closer to obtaining the job.

Workforce Series #8: Your Appearance at Work People who work need to consider how they look. Appearance does count and how you appear to others can make or break a job opportunity or your success on the job.

Workforce Series #9: How To Be Successful On the Job Job success can be achieved by developing some principles to guide you throughout the days, months, and years ahead. Consider these principles and how they may fit with your current employment.
