News SDSU publication: Just what is a “farm”?07-17-09 A new South Dakota State University publication shows the changes in the number, and in the historic definitions, of farming operations in South Dakota. SDSU Extension Extra 9004, "Just what is a ‘farm'" is available at this link: http://agbiopubs.sdstate.edu/articles/ExEx9004.pdf. Or ask for it at your county Extension office. The two-page publication looks at the changing official governmental definitions of farms and how a wide range of agricultural operations can be classified as farming operations. The publication includes a look at other terms that are often confusing, including farming-dependent county. The author suggests a better knowledge of the terms that policy makers and others use may benefit those who live in agricultural areas of the state. SDSU Rural Sociology department head Mike McCurry wrote the publication. |
